A message from our chairman

Dennis Lovett, Chairman MKMRS

Bletchley Park is located within earshot of the West Coast Main Line and the remnants of the East – West line which once linked Cambridge with Oxford and will, hopefully, do so again in the future. Transport has always been a major factor in the area that has since our formation in 1969, grown to become what is now Milton Keynes.

In an area steeped in railway history and tradition, 1969 saw the emergence of a new model railway club onto the scene. With the emergence of the designated new city of Milton Keynes just two years earlier, the club were one of the first to embrace Milton Keynes into its title.

We now have excellent facilities to house our layouts and we are open at weekends as part of the Bletchley Park museum facilities. We have trains running, static displays and railway relics. We also have displays that tell of our railway history and how they contributed to the Second World War effort.

Having been open to the public at weekends since 1994, we are embarking on a programme of upgrading our layouts and facilities. Railways and model railways are ever evolving and our displays need to reflect this. We also continue to show older models which provoke nostalgic memories for many of our visitors.

Our facilities are housed within the communications environment that is Bletchley Park. For it was the railways that virtually created the modern communications systems that we all now take for granted. The railways created standardised clock times, telegraph communication and codes, signalling (originally by flags and people) and enabled both freight and people to move around.
If you would like to know more about what we do and who we are, then this website will hopefully encourage you to find out more. We have members ranging from beginners through to those who can scratch-build locomotives.

We operate trains from clockwork through to the latest Digital Command Control systems – for we recognise not just where our hobby is going, but where over the last 100 years it has come from!
