The MKMRS Digital Command and Control (DCC) group formed in April 2004 with four members who had their own control systems and locos at home. They wished to expand their knowledge with other club members of this recent and rapidly developing area of model railway technology.
A test layout was built, the idea being that members could bring their own DCC systems in and run their own locos in order to learn more about the possibilities with DCC. In 2007, it was decided that the test layout had served it purpose and the club committee approved construction of an HO scale DCC layout with an American theme.
The introduction of DCC at the club has been an outstanding success, giving members a new challenge in converting existing locos to DCC with fully operational lights, sound and other control functions. Word about our involvement with DCC has spread, and numerous visitors who have visited to see what all the fuss was about have now become members.
Central Station was first exhibited at our own 2008 Model Railway show and was recently exhibited at Romford Model Railway Show in November 2008. A short YouTube clip of the layout at Romford show is available on this page, along with some pictures of the layout at the same show.
If you would like Central Station to appear at your show, please contact the MKMRS secretary (secretary@mkmrs.org.uk).
Further information about DCC can be found on many websites; however, we would recommend joining one of the many discussion groups such as DCC UK.
